For this project, I collaborated with four other students from different disciplines. We were sponsored and tasked by LG Electronics to develop a new product that would incorporate a new fan technology. We combined our specialties to conduct market research and brainstorm a wide variety of innovative ideas before narrowing our ideas down to one solid concept that we felt would fill a product opportunity gap within the market. Our concept won a 2019 Model One Award from Model Solutions.
The problem with current fans is that they are not effective and efficient. They are only able to oscillate from left to right and have a large motor which takes up a lot of space and makes it difficult for storage.
Torus is designed to eliminate the need for oscillation and deliver full rotation fan capabilities in a household product. Torus would be able to circulate air in all 360˚ without the need for oscillation which provides consumers with better comfort and air flow in various living spaces. Eventually we could also offer air purification via HEPA filters residing inside the fan.
As the world moves more towards digital marketing and online shopping, it was important for us to develop a way for our consumers to purchase online. The website for Torus is designed to be simple and clean to fit brand standards and to give consumers a comfortable shopping experience. The website also provides options for customers to learn about their product and access to any support that they may need to maintain their fan.
We wanted to incorporate an app into the interface of Torus to give users an even more convenient way to control and maintain their fan. Users would use the app to fully control their fan and receive reminders to maintain their fan. The overall design of the app combines Torus's visual language and the visual language of LG's Smart ThinQ app. This would give users a comfortable transition between both apps or potentially allow Torus to be a product incorporated into the Smart ThinQ app.
